Cranberries with a TWIST

IMG_5654

Try my fresh take on cranberry sauce this year.  Cranberry Cherry Chutney starts with butter and red onions and includes succulent dried cherries and fresh orange.  This flavor combination is a taste sensation that will be perfect along side your beautiful bird.   Let me know how you like it!

Cranberry Cherry Chutney

1 12 ounce package of fresh cranberries

½ cup dried cherries chopped finely

2 tablespoons butter

1 small red onion diced

Zest of 1 orange

½ cup fresh squeezed orange juice

¾ cup sugar

Sauté onions in butter over medium heat for about 5 minutes until they soften.  Add remaining ingredients and cook over low heat until sugar dissolves, about 10 minutes until sugar dissolves.  Increase heat to medium and continue to cook until cranberries pop and mixture is thick.  Pour cranberry mixture into a bowl and chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
